The folk custom of Zhongyuan Festival in the 7th lunar month is to pray to ghosts and Gods to be safe. But to hundreds and thousands of innocent chickens and pigs, this festival means a day of unnecessary death, because the tradition is to sacrifice them to the lost and lonely spirits. Taipei Zoo and Taipei Animal Shelter hold memorial ceremony for the animals in the zoo or shelter every year. Vegan 30, however, would love to hold a Memorial Day for all the "lost and lonely animal spirits", in hope that they will rest in peace in heaven. We sincerely hope everyone, from all aspect of life, can come join us!
Now there are already many people who use veg meat, mock animals, or other plant based products in place of meats. We hope that we can call on more people to become conscious of this issue, encourage more people to use products of non-animal origin to celebrate the Zhongyuan Festival. It is a better choice for the planet, for our health, and for the animals that share this earth with us.

Q: I’m not a vegan/vegetarian. Can I also join?
A: Anyone is welcomed to give blessings to the animals!
Q: Is this a religious event?
A: We are combining Zhongyuan Festival, but the Memorial Day is for the animals. It is not an activity for a specific religion, nor will we have any religious ceremony. We welcome people from all religions, or atheist, to take part in this activity!
Q: Will you show bloody clips or images during the event? We’re afraid children might get scared.
A: We won’t. It’s a sorrowful yet heart-warming event, suitable for all ages! Children can participate by showing up with their beloved stuffed animals if they would like to. Please come join us to give our blessings!
(You are welcomed to ask us any questions! Thanks!)
